I don't know about you but this is one of the reasons this country was founded. If needed we can hunt and fish for our food as well as defend ourselves. It is healthier and safer for you to get out of the city when times are tough and raise food as well as hunt and fish. To some this is still a way of life as well as an escape from the bondage of the Urban Sprawl as well as the confines of the goods at the stores and Supermarkets. If and when another 9-11 event occurs in this country, the right to bare small arms might be a necessity for survival in the outlying communities. We all remember the looting in the bigger cities when things turned bad ... this was their way of hunting for what they needed to survive. I myself do not blame them, it is the only thing they new to do to get what they needed for survival.

Do the country a favor and join a local gun club. Learn to (Safely) own and handle a gun as well as a hand gun. Then teach others what they are really supposed to be used for. Contrary to some peoples belief there are more uses for hand guns than what you see in the media. For instance taking to the local junior high or high school, how many times have we watched that on the news as opposed to educating people on gun safety. This is just another way media shapes minds in a negative way. In researching its origin we can clearly see that a (Militia) is a group of organized citizens (gun club/watch group,etc.), separate form a standing army as well as police force.

And yet, though this truth would seem so clear, and the importance of a well regulated militia would seem so undeniable, it cannot be disguised, that among the American people there is a growing indifference to any system of militia discipline, and a strong disposition, from a sense of its burthens, to be rid of all regulations. How it is practicable to keep the people duly armed without some organization, it is difficult to see. There is certainly no small danger, that indifference may lead to disgust, and disgust to contempt; and thus gradually undermine all the protection intended by this clause of our national bill of rights."

In this quote, Story describes a militia as the "natural defense of a free country," both against foreign foes, domestic revolts and usurpation by rulers. The book regards the militia as a "moral check" against both usurpation and the arbitrary use of power, while expressing distress at the growing indifference of the American people to maintaining such an organized militia, which could lead to the undermining of the protection of the Second Amendment
