Welcome to the wonderful world of RC flight!
If you are interested in RC flight you first need to answer a few questions.
1) Where do you want to fly? do you want to fly gas airplanes? If so then you should join up with a local club and join the AMA if you want to fly electric small planes then you can either join the AMA or join the park flyer program also through the AMA's Park Flyer Program
2) How much can you afford to spend getting into the hobby?
3) Are you going to try and teach your self how to fly (not recommended)
$125.00 can get you in the air with a foam airplane and some inexpensive components.
See our kit page or forum links at the bottom of this page. You can teach yourself as well as seek a club trainer with this setup. If you are local check the events calendar on the left and come out and see us ... we will put you in the air and let you fly before you buy.
If you are going to teach your self go with an electric foam
airplane and if you can go with an EPP foam plane ... they have
"Bounce-Ability" built in ... and you will need it. See Kit Page. Under no
circumstances do I recommend teaching yourself to fly a stick built balsa
plane, this will more than likely be a disaster ... trust me I have been there.
$350.00 range can get you into a balsa ARF kit from the local hobby store like the SuperStar 40. Or a good used plane with all the acessories ready to go. The price tag on ARF plane will leave money out of the $350.00 for a suitable radio and support Items. Before you spend your hard earned cash check out the local clubs page to search for a club in your area. Every club I have been to is more than willing to help new people into the hobby. This is the first place you should start. Go there BEFORE you go to the hobby shop, I would even go as far as to say that there will be someone there with a trainer plane that you will be able to try before you buy!!! Many clubs in the area host a "TAG" Take-off and grow program.Tag Program link Click the link to learn more about it then contact a local club member, they will be able to point you in the right direction.
$500.00 and up there are to many directions to list ..."DON'T GO TO THE STORE" I would suggest getting together with someone from a club in your area they will get you started in the right direction. HANG ON TO YOUR MONEY with an iron fist ... there will be plenty of places for you to spend it wisely when you know what you want. See local clubs link on the menu on the left. If you have a good computer with a high end graphics card and just have to spend some money get a simulator program like" real flight G4.5". Trust me you wont be sorry, that little red reset button on the control is a lot easier to press than rebuilding a balsa plane ... been there done that more than once!!!
